RCExplorer Tricopter v4 build

After building several miniquads I wanted something a little ‘different’ to work on, so I ordered the v4 tricopter from RCExplorer – that’s David WindestÃ¥l’s site, you might recognise him if you watch Flite Test or Rotor Riot. I figured I’d share some pictures from the build, along with my thoughts. Overall I have to say that I love the ‘copter & it’s a joy to fly, but it was definitely the trickiest build I’ve done to date (despite being the largest overall!) & it left me quite frustrated in several places.

FPV Flying (is super fun)

I’ve been out flying FPV a few times since I last posted about quads & today I feel as though I have been properly indoctrinated into the hobby – by having to fish one out of tree & finally (after 12 batteries!) properly breaking something!

Balloon Bokeh Whoring

It’s RAG week 2014 at St Andrews, so the Ents Crew once again gets to play with thousands of purple balloons (purple is the RAG colour). This year we tried something new & twisted jewel tone (translucent) balloons around strings of (LED) fairy lights – the same way that you twist them around arch line to make an arch. I thought it would be fun to wear my GoPro whilst making one of the lines so here’s the result!

The GoPro unfortunately didn’t pick up the effect with the main lights off at all at the end of the video, but in person it actually looks really pretty & this photo gives a better idea of the beautiful bokeh ball heaven that we created – fairy lights, balloons & f/1.1 is a bokeh whore’s dream :)
