My DSCVR arrived from I AM Cardboard in HK the other day. It’s a plastic Cardboard viewer, but unlike other plastic viewers (Homido, Freefly, ColorCross, etc.) the DSCVR is actually a ‘certified’ Cardboard viewer because it sticks to Google’s design guidelines well enough.
“One blue please.”
First impressions were great; very premium feel & finish to the package.
Slightly slimmer when packed than a cardboard v2.
My only concern when first seeing the design was the longevity of the silicone flap. Now that I’ve held it in my hands & used it, I’m still not convinced. But at $30 it’s not much more expensive than a decent cardboard v2, so if it lasts at least as long as one of those then I guess it’s okay?
The button is great, much better than the cardboard version.
The slit in the nose space that lets you line up the centre of the screen is a wonderful idea.
I guess if the silicone does break, it might be replaceable thanks to being screwed in place instead of glued? Depends whether I AM Cardboard decide to sell spares I suppose.
The family of smartphone viewers; v1 Cardboard top left, v2 Cardboard bottom left, Freefly in the middle, DSCVR on the right.
I was looking at this vr cardboard online and I was wondering, Is the silicone strap stretchy? Do you think it would it stretch around a Nexus 7 tablet? Thank you for this information.
It’s slightly stretchy, so it can go around a phone with a bulky case, but I definitely wouldn’t think it could stretch all the way around a Nexus 7.
